Mayfair Community Centre hosts a dementia friendly singing group designed with people with care needs and their carers in mind, as well as others in the earlier stages of illness, by Breathing Space – a singing for health and wellbeing project. Singing together in a supportive group can help to: improve your breath control lower your heart rate improve cognitive function (such as reducing brain fog) build self esteem develop mindfulness skills reduce feelings of social isolation nurture your creativity, and make new friends. Group sessions take place at the Mayfair Community Centre each Wednesday, from 2pm to 3pm, and spaces are limited, so advance booking is essential. An initial session can be attended for a special trial fee of £5, with subsequent sessions costing £10 pay-as-you-go, or £37.50 for a 5 week block of sessions starting from week 1 of the term. If you are person with care needs (not limited to dementia) you are very welcome to join, but are asked to note that you will need to take a carer with you each week. (Accompanying carers providing support can attend free of charge.)
