The Dragon Boat Festival is an annual fundraising event organised by Severn Hospice, which takes place each July on the River Severn in Shrewsbury. Teams compete along a 250m course in 40ft long, brightly coloured boats with up to 16 rowers, a drummer to beat out the rhythm for the rowers, and a professional helmsman provided by the organisers. Refreshments including hot food, drinks, cakes and ice cream are available, and the general public are very welcome to come along and witness the spectacle from the beautiful Quarry Park.
