The Oswestry Branch of CPRE Shropshire (formerly known as Campaign to Protect Rural England) is one of several local district groups. CPRE acts to protect the countryside and the environment. The organisation is particularly involved with issues concerning new developments, wind turbines, rural roads, hedgerows, waterways and planning policies, and aims to develop better environmental understanding at all levels. CPRE Shropshire has a brief for the entire historic county of Shropshire, including Telford and Wrekin, a total of 229 parishes, and there are local CPRE Shropshire district groups in Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth, Oswestry, South Shropshire, and Telford & Wrekin. The Oswestry District Group covers the old Oswestry Borough Council area. The District has a very small number of active campaigners and new members would be most welcome. There is a committee which meets intermittently to arrange talks and garden evenings.
