Herefordshire, Ludlow and North Shropshire College group is made up of five colleges covering Herefordshire and North Shropshire. Walford College one of the 5 colleges in the group is set in its own beautiful 220-hectare farm near Shrewsbury, with lakes and woodland The college incorporates a large arable, dairy, beef and sheep training farm, equestrian and animal care centres, motor vehicle workshops and more. The animal care centre has specialist facilities to cater for over 80 different species, including meerkats, snakes, birds of prey, alpacas, rats, kookaburras and bearded dragons. They also have a dairy, a 65-hectare grazing platform supporting a pasture-based autumn calving herd of dairy cows and a flock of Shropshire sheep. The equestrian centre comprises a 60m x 30m indoor arena, outdoor school and stabling for up to 32 horses (livery facilities available by arrangement). They have a large motor vehicle centre with three workshops, a new purpose-built Foundation Learning Centre and restaurant. Thanks to investment of over £10m, Walford provides some of the best facilities in the region. They’re the only college in the area to offer a timetable suited to the demands of young people living in rural communities, who often face long daily journeys. At Walford they also offer high quality residential accommodation so students can live on campus. Part-time courses include leisure courses and certified statutory qualifications required for key professions, for example, the safe use of pesticides, All Terrain Telescopic Handler and a wide range of Chainsaw and Arboriculture qualifications. They offer Government Funded Apprenticeships in many subjects, including Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance, Agriculture and Horticulture with new apprenticeships being added all the time. Level 2 certificate courses are available to study via distance learning (online) and they also offer free, government-funded courses for adults including Level 3 qualifications and courses to improve your maths and numeracy. The College offers low-cost short courses for adults (19 years+) too – perfect for trying out something new or learning more about a hobby you enjoy, while meeting new people.
