The Plantation Wood Ellesmere Group are a registered charity, formed by and for members of the community with the purpose of “Preserving and Maintaining Plantation Wood for the benefit of the community now, and for future generations”. The Plantation is a small patch of secondary woodland situated to the southeast of Ellesmere. The footpaths through the Plantation wood are the main route from the Canal via Castle Fields to the Mere. It also forms part of a number of circular walks from the Canal to the Mere, Castle Fields, the Arboretum etc, and visa versa. To ensure the Plantation & its footpaths are safe, besides the paid work on the trees carried out by professionals, a few times each year the Group need volunteer work parties to clear undergrowth and maintain the steps. The best way to show support for the Plantation Wood community trust is to become a “Friend of The Plantation Wood” or to volunteer for one of the work parties. Membership of the Group is open to any person over 16, or any organisation located in the North Shropshire area, who is interested in helping the Group to achieve its aims.
