Shropshire Army Cadet Force offers exciting opportunities to young people from age 12 years (but must be in Year 8 at school), otherwise it is age 13 years to 18 years. The aim of the Army Cadets is to provide young people with the life skills they need by developing: communication skills; leadership and team-building skills; self-confidence; self-discipline. Participants learn fieldcraft, drill and turnout, rifle drill, cane drill, military knowledge, map and compass and command tasks (skill at arms). Other activities include abseiling, canoeing, rock climbing, mountain cycling, football, swimming, rafting, first aid, athletics, adventure training and sailing. There are 22 Detachments, 1 Band and 3 B-Tec in public services, plus Duke of Edinburgh Awards to Gold level. Uniforms are provided free of charge, and all activities are fun, challenging and free.
