Wellington Army Cadets welcome boys and girls from age 12 years (but must be in Year 8 at school), otherwise it is age 13 years to 18 years. Participants learn fieldcraft, drill and turnout, rifle drill, cane drill, military knowledge, map and compass and command tasks (skill at arms). Other activities include abseiling, canoeing, rock climbing, mountain cycling, football, swimming, rafting, first aid, athletics, adventure training and sailing. The Cadets meet at the Cadet Centre on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, from 7pm to 9pm. Uniforms are provided free of charge, and all activities are fun, challenging and free. There are 22 Detachments, 1 Band and 3 B-Tec in public services, plus Duke of Edinburgh Awards to Gold level.
