Childnet International is a UK-based charity working in partnership with various user groups and stakeholders, including children, parents and carers, child welfare services, police, government and policy makers to help make the internet a safe place for children. Childnet works actively in the area of education and awareness by providing quality advice to children, young people, parents, teachers and caregivers, to enable children to use the technology safely and responsibly. Childnet has created a number of innovative resources: from the app version of its celebrated children’s storybook, Digiduck’s Big Decision, to its award-winning suite of cyberbullying resources, including Let’s Fight IT Together, and ‘Crossing the Line’, ‘Myth versus Reality’, practical online safety PSHE toolkits with films and lesson plans and government-backed guidance for schools and Step Up, Speak Up! a practical campaign toolkit to address the issue of online sexual harassment amongst young people aged 13-17 years, including a range of resources for young people and the professionals who work with them, including teachers, pastoral teams, senior school leadership and police forces. Childnet runs the Childnet Digital Leaders programme, a peer to peer internet safety programme open to all UK Schools by subscription, plus a national film competition for 7 – 18 year olds to create a film on internet safety. Childnet continually seeks to help the most vulnerable in society, launching resources for young people with autism spectrum disorders, and for foster carers and adoptive parents. In 2010 Childnet was appointed by the European Commission as one of three charities in the UK Safer Internet Centre, and in this role Childnet coordinates Safer Internet Day.
