The Shrewsbury Charity Christmas Card Shop is held every year in The Trinity Chapel of St Mary’s Church, Shrewsbury. The card shop has been running for over 50 years, and last year its sales amounted to over £58,000. It is run entirely by volunteers and the only costs incurred are those for rent, lighting and heating. Due to the low overheads at least 98% of takings are given to each charity (last year it was slightly more). Around 40 charities participate each year including small local charities, some larger local groups and national ones. The shop is staffed on a rota basis so that every charity has a turn. The shop sells Christmas cards, calendars, diaries and wrapping papers, and every charity is clearly labelled. The shop generally opens in mid-October for 6 weeks, closing at the beginning of December. Hours are 10.15am until 4pm daily except Sundays (although the shop opens on the Sunday of the Chocolate festival weekend).
