Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust’s podiatry and foot health service is a community-based service that provides patients who are registered with a GP in Shropshire or Telford and Wrekin with advice, assessments and diagnosis for foot care or podiatric treatment. There are a number of clinical sites covering Shrewsbury, North and South Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin, and all podiatry clinic locations are based at GP surgeries or community health centres. The Podiatry Team provide assessment, treatment and self care advice for adults and children with clinical and medical-related foot problems, including: Acute diabetic foot care Children’s gait clinics Dermatological foot conditions Moderate risk Diabetic foot screening Musculoskeletal podiatry (Shropshire GP patients only) Nail surgery Neurological assessment of the foot Vascular assessment of the foot Wound care. New patients are referred into the services via their GP via the E-referral system. Existing patients can contact the service directly for help, support and further appointments, they do not need further referral by a health professional if they have been seen by Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust’s podiatry service within the past six months. The Podiatry Team do not offer personal care, which is defined as toe nail cutting and skin care, including the tasks that would normally be carried out as part of everyday personal hygiene Domicillary Visits are available for patients who are housebound, require podiatric treatment or assessment, and are unable to access the clinics via public and patient transport, local car services or private assisted means of travel.
