The Shropshire Hills National Landscape Team works in partnership with others to deliver projects, grants, advice, support and awareness raising activities to protect and regenerate the National Landscape for everyone to enjoy. Activity is guided by a statutory Management Plan for the area. The Shropshire Hills is part of a UK family of National Landscapes. It was one of the first areas to be designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1958. Covering almost a quarter of the county, extending from the Wrekin to the Clun Forest and from the Stiperstones across to the Clee Hills, it is a diverse landscape of hills and valleys, woods, meadows, and rivers, along with ancient hillforts, villages, old mines and quarries. Some 19,000 people live within the Shropshire Hills, though the only towns within the boundary are Church Stretton and Clun, but the big challenges of restoring nature, tackling climate change, balancing land use, and supporting people’s wellbeing are faced here as elsewhere.
