Safe Places Shropshire is a community-led initiative supported by Shropshire Council, Telford & Wrekin Council, and West Mercia Police. It provides a network of ‘short-term safe havens’ for people who may require additional support and assistance when they are out and about in the community. The aim of ‘Safe Places’ is to provide vulnerable individuals with a number of places that they know they can go to and immediately receive support and understanding about their issues. This includes people with learning disabilities or those who live with anxiety attacks or dementia. Each location that signs up to the initiative will display a sticker that identifies it as a ‘Safe Place’. This scheme gives people more confidence to travel independently around Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin. It will also allow carers to feel reassured that there is always likely to be help nearby for their loved ones. As of October 2025 the following locations in Wellington had signed up to the initiative: AJ’s Kitchen All Saints Parish Centre Baker and Son Schoolwear Boots the Chemist Cancer Research Charity Shop Cash Providers Catherine’s Bakery Dracks Den Early Bird Café Easy Living (formerly Care & Mobility) Flying Juice Tattoo FRO Blinds Gratitude Cafe Heron Foods Karen J Boulton Opticians One Stop, Bagley Drive One Stop, Dawley Road Park Street Kitchen PDSA Charity Shop Power Point Stores Ltd Ren’s Cafe Bar Salvation Army Charity Shop Savers Sofia’s Coffee Shop Telford & Wrekin Interfaith Community Hub Thai Kitchen (Wellington) The Boardroom Gaming Cafe The Boot Micro Pub The Cock Hotel The Crying Room The Green Cove The Little Green Pantry The Sevens, Dee Close TSB Bank Wellington Civic & Leisure Centre Wellington Library Wellington Orbit Wellington Police Station Zoe Trends.
