Children learn through play and thrive when they feel happy and safe, so our aim is that your child develops an eagerness to learn and builds self-confidence by participating in interesting open-ended activities. We balance planning in the moment with adult led teaching to present children with challenging, progressive opportunities based on their knowledge or interests. We develop a child’s knowledge and skills in all the areas of learning designated in EYFS. We model polite, considerate, calm and fair behaviour as your child learns how to get along with others. We aim to establish and maintain good relationships with parents/carers and other agencies. Children form attachments with their keyworker before separating from parents. We provide equal opportunities and promote British Values. We foster a close relationship with the reception class. We are often out playing alongside KS1 classes. We hold P.E. sessions in the primary school hall/grounds in the summer term, sometimes led by an outside group. Local offer for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities: We welcome all children to our setting and endeavour to ensure that appropriate provision is in place for the child with a known additional need. All children with SEN play a full part in the daily life of the setting and will be encouraged to join in all activities. Adaptations will be made to activities to ensure inclusion is maintained as far as is possible. We do not have a disabled toilet in the setting but there is one in the primary school if necessary. We do have a ramp for access into the setting. We are committed to the early identification and intervention of children who may have additional needs. Parents will be advised at the earliest opportunity if staff have concerns about their child. We recognise that all children develop at varying rates. Our concern is when a child develops at a significantly slower rate than their peers or would normally be expected in the four broad areas specified in the SEN code of practise. (Communication and interaction; cognition and learning; social and emotional development and sensory and/or physical development). If a practitioner has reason for concern based on detailed observation, an intervention plan is devised. The individual learning plan is additional to an different from normal programme that is usually provided in the weekly planning. The staff liaise with the SENCO, parents and carers and involve them in setting targets and strategies. All targets are small, easily achievable steps, shared with the child if appropriate and reviewed at least every half term. If staff feel that a child may benefit from additional help, with parent input and consent, the staff will seek help from outside agencies in accessing that child’s needs. Diagnosis of needs will be made by relevant departments, not staff. Staff will work alongside agencies and parents to ensure the child is supported in an inclusive education.
