Shrewsbury Music Therapy Unit provides Music Therapy mainly for children and adults with learning &/or physical disabilities and communication difficulties following a professional referral. The unit caters for children and adults from Shropshire and Border Counties. Music therapy is the clinical use of music to make direct contact with the emotions of children and adults. It is first and foremost therapy – the hcpc registered Music Therapist has been highly trained (at Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy Centre, London) to use the language of music to communicate with clients, enabling them towards resolving inner tensions and developing their potential. As well as addressing emotional needs and patterns of behaviour, the therapist aims to develop communication skills and stimulate specific areas of the brain to either support,or help take over, the roles of impaired areas and thus aid cognitive development and sensory integration. Please note that “Shrewsbury Music Therapy Unit” does NOT provide work experience placements. Please contact the “British Association for Music Therapy” for enquiries related to career information requests.
