The Local Optical Committee (LOC) is one of the local professional committees constituted under the National Health Service Acts. It exists to represent the interests of optometrists and contractors who practise under a contract for services to the NHS. The Committee is also involved in promoting the role of community optometry in enhancing eye care services and making more effective use of primary and secondary care resources. In this role the LOC will put forward suggestions for developing community or co-managed services which will offer better access for patients. The LOC website contains useful information for patients about common eye conditions and how to find services for the blind and visually impaired.
