The Phoenix Model Engineering Society is situated within Telford Steam Railway. They have approximately 1/5 mile of continuous 5″ ground level track which is designed into two circuits of the area. There is also a miniature station and a 20′ tunnel. Phoenix Model Engineering Society was founded in 1972 by a group of model engineers who wished to establish a miniature railway. Eventually they were offered use of land and facilities at the Phoenix School in Horsehay, Telford (hence the name of the Society). In 1994 arrangements were made with the Telford Steam Railway to reside on a parcel of land adjacent to Spring Village Station. The track from the school was moved and relaid. Since then the track has been extended to give the current layout, but improvements are continuing to be made. The Society meets at their club-house every Tuesday from 7.30pm to 9pm, and new members are always welcome. Their season starts at Easter and ends on the last Sunday in September. They are open every Sunday, on Bank Holidays and other special days (as arranged by Telford Steam Railway) from 11am to 4pm, subject to the weather.
