Shropshire Epilepsy Support is a small charity, working with people of all ages within the community, in order to support, raise awareness and provide vital epilepsy services so that they can create better lives for those affected by the condition. Amongst some of their popular services, Shropshire Epilepsy Support provides an epilepsy awareness training project to schools and businesses, a helpline for advice (they cannot give medical advice), monthly family support group meetings (aimed at toddlers to 16 yrs) for all those who are effected by epilepsy (including their family and carers), a free anti-suffocation pillow project, and they hold events throughout the county to raise vital awareness about epilepsy. The aim of the family support group meetings is not to sit down and endlessly talk about the condition, but to give support through fun social activities and events in the area. Members come to have fun and to have a break away from the worry and isolation that epilepsy can bring to their lives. Meetings are held once a month, at different locations around Shrewsbury (depending on the event), and provide the opportunity to: learn more about the condition and contributing factors socialise, with meetings for both adults and families help raise awareness of the condition provide support, and form a network of friends who can help outside of the meetings For more information, please follow the link to visit their website, or for details of forthcoming meetings go to the ‘events’ section on their Facebook page, or use the contact details provided.
