Bedstone College is an independent, rural co-educational boarding & day school set in the heart of the beautiful Marches countryside in south Shropshire on the Herefordshire and Powys borders. Non selective, Bedstone provides a wonderful all-round education for students from 4 to 18 years old with a Junior School, Senior School and The Court Sixth Form. Kindness is at the heart of the Bedstone Family; the school motto, literally translated means charity. They value tolerance towards each other; being confident enough to respect each other’s opinions and views putting others before ourselves. They seek to inspire and nurture every student, from the youngest in the dedicated Junior School to the oldest in the Senior School or Sixth Form, helping to build on their unique strengths and leave Bedstone as well-rounded individuals. Starting full time school is an important and exciting step in every child’s life. At Bedstone, we are committed to making this start as happy and smooth as possible. Children in the reception class begin their learning journey towards the Early learning Goals. All children develop at their own rate, in their own way. At Bedstone, we treat every child as an individual. In Key Stage 1, learning experiences and teaching of key skills are tailored to enable every boy and girl to achieve and to master the underlying tools needed for future learning. Children can join Bedstone from September in the academic year in which they turn 5. They offer a broad, varied and exciting curriculum. Small class numbers allow for extra individual support and the opportunity to customise the curriculum and thereby maximise the development of each child. Within the Senior School students are offered a broad pattern of academic work that goes beyond the requirements of the National Curriculum. Physics, Chemistry and Biology are studied as separate sciences; students study two modern foreign languages, French and Spanish. Music, Art, Design Technology, ICT, Religious Education, Physical Education and PSHE all form part of the core curriculum in forms 1 to 3 (years 7-9) alongside History, Geography, English and Mathematics. In addition, all students have three sessions of games each week. Academic progress is closely monitored and each individual student’s efforts and achievements are graded and discussed every half-term by the entire staff. The Court Sixth Form has repositioned itself to reflect the current trend towards apprenticeships and training as well as a stronger focus on students gaining places at the very best universities both in the UK and abroad. By the time they leave, their results will ensure that they are capable of taking up places at the top Universities or on the most competitive Corporate Apprenticeship schemes. Their multi-cultural 6th form accepts exceptional students from all over the world.
