Read Easy UK is a national charity which supports volunteers in setting up local groups. The affiliated groups provide free, confidential one-to-one coaching sessions for adults who want to learn to read or improve their reading. Coaching sessions take place in community venues such as local libraries, where the coach and reader meet for two 30-minute sessions each week. Read Easy Telford and Shropshire East was formed in October 2019, and they are now working in Market Drayton. The charity is currently recruiting Volunteer Reading Coaches and hoping to help more adults in the area. Many think you have to have a background in education or teaching but you don’t, you need to be keen and enthusiastic and be able to sit with someone and guide them through the Shannon Trust Turning Pages scheme. Reading Coach training is funded by the group, along with all the resources and materials needed.
