Abdon District Community Wildlife Group are a group of local residents who are interested in the area’s natural history. Their members have a range of interests including plants, birds, butterflies, moths, dragonflies etc. The Group’s annual programmes include a range of activities, such as damselfly and dragonfly hunts, a Dawn Chorus Walk, Moth Mornings, an orchid search, or just a walk through an interesting-looking piece of countryside, to see what they find. In recent years, the Group have carried out surveys of lapwing, curlew and other birds, as part of the Save Our Curlews campaign which is supported by the Shropshire Wildlife Trust and Shropshire Ornithological Society. They are also involved with the Our Common Cause project covering Clee Liberty. Other important areas they cover include helping one another learn about their local natural history, and ensuring that their records are sent to the relevant county recorders for inclusion in the county database.
