Shrewsbury Roman Catholic Cathedral is the Mother Church for the Diocese of Shrewsbury and parish church for members of the local cathedral parish. The Roman Catholic Parish of Shrewsbury also includes the churches Our Lady of Pity, Harlescott and St Winefride’s, Monkmoor. Together the three parishes form the Shrewsbury Local Pastoral Area (Shrewsbury LPA). The Cathedral was designed by Edward Pugin. Completed in 1856, the building was paid for by the Earl of Shrewsbury who sadly died three months before it was finished.
