Fly-tipping is illegal dumping of liquid or solid waste on land or in water. It is also an offence to permit fly tipping on private land. Shropshire Council clear reported fly tips within five working days. However, if the offence causes an obstruction or is considered to be dangerous, it will be cleared sooner. In order to report an incident of fly-tipping you should gather as much information as you can about: the circumstances, for example, if anyone witnessed the incident, the date and time it happened and a description of any vehicles involved; land type, for example, relevant land or privately owned; location, for example, highway verge, back alleyway, railway embankment or river; the amount and type of waste, for example, solid, liquid or gas; its potential effects, for example, how it may harm people, animals or the environment. If waste is fly-tipped on private land, the clearing and disposal of this waste is the responsibility of the landowner. Landowners can pass details of fly-tipping on their land to their local council to input for recording purposes.
