The Perinatal Community Mental Health Service, in Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin supports women’s mental health during and after pregnancy.The service is designed to provide specialist community mental health care to women who experience significant mental health issues during their pregnancy or in the first year following their child’s birth (the perinatal period). The team is based in the local community and made up of perinatal mental health specialists including doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, nursery nurses, peer support workers, clinical psychologists and health care support workers.Women can experience any kind of mental health problems during and after pregnancy, but there are some that are particularly common or are specifically linked to pregnancy and childbirth including:Perinatal depressionPerinatal anxietyPerinatal OCDPostpartum psychosisPostpartum PTSDIf you feel that you need help from the perinatal Community Mental Health Team (CMHT), please speak to your GP, midwife or health visitor who can refer you to the service as needed.
