We are a nurturing Primary School and Nursery, situated in the beautiful, rural village of Upton Magna. Our team are dedicated to supporting each child to thrive. Our curriculum and wider offer is enriched engaging opportunities and real life experiences. Our beautiful location and grounds allow children to experience learning in the world around around us whilst also enhancing their knowledge of their natural surroundings and the importance of caring for the environments.We have a dedicated forest school site and are part of the schools Eco club. We are proud to maintain strong links with the local Church and to continually develop children’s sense of self within the community. We offer full wrap around care for children aged 3 and above through our Sunrise and Sunset Clubs along with an exciting Holiday Club provision. Sunrise and Sunset club are offered at school everyday starting from 7:45am and lasting until 6pm. All clubs are available to book online using the SchoolMoney app. Sunrise club is £5.50 for arrival from 7:45-8:45am with breakfast of cereal or toast included. Sunset club consists of a themed club for the first hour until 4:15, at £3.50 per child, then wraparound care until 5:15 at £7 per child including a drink and a biscuit, ending with extended wraparound care until 6:00 at £10 per child. Nursery: Children work within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) during Nursery and Reception, we carefully balance a child led approach to play based learning with adult led activities, within our daily routine. To maximise learning opportunities, children have daily access to both an indoor and outdoor classroom, independence and choice are encouraged. Reading, writing and mathematics are seen frequently across all areas and activities, opportunities will be appropriately differentiated to meet each child’s needs, deepening and extending their understanding. Nursery Session times: Morning Session 8.45 am—11.45 am Afternoon Session 12.15pm — 3.15 pm Lunch time session 11.45am—12.15 pm Local offer: We believe all children are unique, with different strengths and qualities to offer. To enable all children to achieve their full potential at St. Lucia’s, we look for early signs of any difficulties a child may have which could affect their progress, and support with a variety of strategies and programmes. Similarly, we recognise talents and abilities and seek to foster opportunities to develop each child’s individual skills. We have active policies which enable all children to be treated equally regardless of their needs or disabilities. Disabled facilities include ramped access and a disabled toilet. All policies are available on the school website. The named person to contact with regard to SEND is Mrs. S.Woolley and our SEND governor is Mrs. E.Greenaway. The school follows the Shropshire guidelines in assessing and monitoring pupil attainment and progress and when necessary the help of outside agencies, such as a Learning Support Advisory Teacher or a Speech Therapist, is sought. This provides us with further advice and resources when assessing the individual needs of a child and supporting their learning. Children are supported through Pupil Centred Plans and EHCPs and individual and small group support is provided to help children to make progress and support their learning and involvement in all aspects of school life. Pupils with SEND are admitted to St. Lucia’s in accordance with LA guidelines and are encouraged and supported to participate in the full range of activities available alongside their classmates. We have an ‘Open Door’ policy and parents are welcome to speak to the class teacher or other members of staff at a mutually convenient time.
