WellChild is the national UK children’s charity making it possible for children and young people with exceptional health needs to be cared for at home instead of hospital, wherever possible. WellChild ensure the best possible care and support is available for all these children and their families wherever they are and whenever they need it. They provide practical and emotional support to seriously ill children, young people and their families, enabling them to leave hospital and live life in their own homes. As well as funding projects and research to ensure parents, carers and those who work in the children’s healthcare sector are better equipped to provide support to children and young people with long term, complex healthcare needs. In collaboration with Alder Hey children’s hospital The WellChild Better At Home Suite at Edge Hill University is the UK’s first parent and carer training facility. It provides a safe place for families to learn and practice many of the skills they will need to care for their child at home – from managing their ventilation, to feeding them via a tube. WellChild also have UK-wide nurses who provide practical and emotional support particularly in the home to help enable families with seriously ill children to get the support they need for every step of their journey.
