Shropshire Mental Health Support (Shropshire MHS) is a charity working with volunteers to support people experiencing mental or emotional distress. Established 42 years ago as Shropshire Mind, the Charity provides a diverse range of quality services, across the County for the one in four people and their families acknowledged to be affected by mental or emotional distress. They help people to bridge the gap between illness and full independence, and can also put them in touch with expert advice on mental health issues. The Charity provides a 24-hour telephone support service, and host Calmer Cafés in Church Stretton, Oswestry and Shrewsbury – a mental health café service, specifically designed for people who are struggling with their mental health and may need a safe place to talk and receive support. In addition, they also offer a range of weekly groups and activities at their Shrewsbury location, designed to help people with their mental wellbeing. As well as offering these services, Shropshire Mental Health Support seeks to raise awareness of mental health issues and to help society to understand the problems and needs of those in distress.
