Whitchurch Hockey Club provides opportunities for all ages and abilities to participate and become part of their hockey family. They offer the following opportunities for younger players: Juniors (ages 12-15 years): The Club aims to provide a solid transition for Junior players with dedicated coaching, competitive fixtures for U12s, U14s and U15s, and promotion through the structure into the Men’s and Ladies’ senior teams. Junior Training runs from 6.30pm to 7.30pm on Wednesday evenings, and is open for Year 7 (U12) to Year 10 (U15) players, to provide a transition for those in their last year of Academy into the senior squads. Juniors who are participating in the senior teams this year are then welcome to stay on for senior training. Academy (ages 6-12 years): The Whitchurch Hockey Academy offers coaching for children from as young as 6 up to U12 (Year 7). They can provide sticks and shin pads, and anyone is welcome to turn up and try it out – just bring a drink (water is best) and suitable clothing for the weather. The Club currently fields two Men’s teams who play in the North West leagues and three Ladies’ teams who play in the Cheshire leagues. Training for ladies and men in senior teams takes place on Wednesday evenings throughout the season from 7.30pm to 9pm. All sessions are led by England Hockey qualified coaches, and the club currently holds Clubmark accreditation. The Club also provides “Back to Hockey” coached sessions for men and women who may not have played hockey for a long period of time or who are looking to try the sport for the first time. Don’t worry if you’re nervous or don’t remember any rules, as their Back to Hockey coaches will gentle guide you through this series of fun and friendly sessions. Usually consisting of six sessions you will be taught the basic skills and hockey knowledge to allow you to play safely in hockey matches. These sessions are run at the start of each season in September.
