The Royal British Legion (RBL) is the nation’s biggest Armed Forces charity providing care and support to all members of the British Armed Forces, past and present, and their families. It is the national custodian of Remembrance and safeguards the Military Covenant between the nation and its Armed Forces. It is well known for the annual Poppy Appeal, and its emblem the red poppy. If you are a Veteran, or family member of someone that served, and in need of assistance you can call the Legion’s contact centre on 0808 802 8080, between 8am to 8pm. They can assist with benefits, debt and money advice, issue grants where families face hardship, and offer guidance on a host of welfare related topics including independent living, living with / caring for someone with dementia, drug, or alcohol abuse, and much more. In addition, RBL branches locally offer a programme of “Branch Community Support” where branch members can attend funerals to pay respects to departed Veterans, branches offer telephone buddy or face to face buddy visits for isolated individuals or hospital visits where Veterans may be isolated during a hospital stay. They have a wide range of roles available to suit your needs and if you are considering volunteering locally, please use the contact details shown.
