I live and childmind in a very small hamlet . I am especially interested in introducing children to the natural world and I make extensive use of the surrounding countryside, We go out for a walk at least once a day?( unless the weather is impossible , which doesn?t happen often) . We use footpaths , farm tracks and open fields so we can get right away from traffic. I prepare activities each day for the children , and these often concern the changes we observe in the countryside during our walks , and also in the garden. As I come to know each child as an individual I am able to take into consideration his or her particular interests when setting out toys and preparing activities. I have always loved children?s literature, and we make sure we visit the travelling library which comes through the village every other week. Part of our daily routine involves sitting together three or four times each day to read books. I find that children?s books provide so much opportunity for conversation and for building vocabulary, for counting and for learning colours and so many other things, and I enjoy these reading times as much as they do. I liaise with any other settings that a child attends, or to which a child moves on to to ensure smooth transitions. This is a small community and the friendships children make will often endure into their school days.
