Shropshire Council are offering residents the opportunity to get to grips with the internet and make the most out of being online, through a network of council-funded friendly digital learning hubs offering one-to-one support from tech-savvy volunteers.From 2023 to 2026, more than 2,000 people who are most in need will be able to access free digital skills help via this free programme. To be eligible, one or more of the following criteria must apply:Be over 65 yearsLive aloneBe in receipt of a means-tested benefit or on a low incomeProvide unpaid care for a friend or family member who can’t manage without your helpReceive paid or unpaid careHave a disability or health condition.Digital support takes place in a fun and relaxed atmosphere, with volunteers offering support in a friendly, welcoming, and supportive space, to help participants address any difficulties with online confidence and guide them through a programme of weekly one-to-one sessions to develop their digital skills.For eligible people, free digital support is available in a number of Shropshire Libraries, or also from a number of other organisations being funded by Shropshire Council to provide free digital skills tuition.As well as one-to-one support, a limited number of free devices and free connectivity to the internet will be available for participants unable to afford their own.Support is available in various locations across the county:Bayston Hill LibraryBridgnorth LibraryBroseley LibraryCraven Arms LibraryLibrary at the Lantern, Harlescott.
