Men Walking and Talking is a Community Interest Corporation that organise mental health walks with the aim of bringing men together in a safe space to end the stigma around men’s mental health by supporting each other. Men are welcome to join the group, to enjoy a walk in the fresh air and talk about anything that may be on their mind, not just mental health issues. There are no professional councillors or mental health practitioners (although some walk leader are mental health first aiders); they are just men who have experienced or are experiencing mental health problems. The Telford Group meets outside TGI Fridays, at Southwater , every Friday evening at 7pm, and walk for just over an hour, usually covering around 2 miles. The initiative is all voluntary and the Groups arrange fundraising events throughout the year to cover their costs. Originally starting in 2021 with one walk in Telford, there are now four walks based around Shropshire, plus others across the country in Birmingham, Cheshire, Herefordshire, Merthyr Tydfil, Somerset, Warwickshire and Worcestershire.
