The South West Shropshire Historical and Archaeological Society (SWSHAS) holds a season of talks each year from September to April. The last talk of the season is the annual Ritherdon Lecture, which is named after one of the group’s founder members. The Society also organises outings to places of historical interest and presents displays at various events and exhibitions Resources relating to the Society, and to many other aspects of local history, are available at the Bishop’s Castle Heritage Resource Centre, which is located near to the Town Hall. In addition, Bishop’s Castle Library holds a full set of society journals and other relevant materials.
