Veterans With Dogs is the first UK charitable organisation to directly address the needs of mental health difficulties for former service personnel of the British Armed Forces. Founded in 2012, they have developed programmes for the training of Assistance Dogs and Companion Animals to help improve quality of life for those who have experienced difficulties with mental health due to service. Their work centres on encouraging active participation and involvement with dogs; promoting the health and well being of Veterans and their dogs by recognising and promoting the therapeutic bond. They believe that Veterans can overcome the obstacles in their lives that hold them back, increasing independence, self-esteem and value to society.
