The British Red Cross Mobility Aids Service provides a wheelchair hire service for people who require short-term wheelchair hire for recovery, travel or extra support. The Service has adopted a new model that delivers wheelchairs directly to you, and which covers most of the UK (excluding the Hampshire, Norfolk & Waveney, and Northern Ireland, where local Mobility Aid Services are in place). The wheelchairs available are: suitable for anyone over the age of 5; available in a wide range of sizes fitted with footrests; standard weight (lightweight models not available); supplied with leg elevators, cushions and stump supports at no extra cost. Hirers can also choose from: self-propelled – push yourself; transit – someone pushes you; bariatric – for heavier users (available in either self-propelled or transit).
