Red George Rural Skills Project primarily support young people who have an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) and specialise in supporting young people who have emotional and/or behavioural difficulties. They work alongside local schools and Colleges as well as Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin SEND teams to support young people who require additional support to help them to achieve their full potential. Young people have the opportunity to learn a range of practical skills: Animal Care: There is a range of animals resident at Red George including: Chickens, ducks, turkeys, rheas, sheep, goats, rabbits and guinea pigs. Young people learn how to look after the animals covering all aspects of the health and welfare. Farm Maintenance: Covering a range of practical tasks and young people learn how to use a variety of different tools and equipment to carry out tasks such as fencing, building animal houses and shelters, caring out essential repairs, hedge and field maintenance. Horticulture: Young people have the opportunity to learn about growing fruit, vegetables and flowers. Tractor maintenance and driving skills: Young people 14 years and over who are interested in pursuing a career in agriculture have the opportunity to learn basic tractor maintenance skills and on completion of the HSE safe driving of agricultural vehicles training module will be able to learn to drive the tractors. Once they have mastered basic maneuvers they will progress to learning to use a variety of attachments such as harrow, back box, lift and trailers.
