Cymdeithas Gymraeg Amwythig (Shrewsbury Welsh Society) was formed in 1934 by a group of young Welsh people who had moved into the town to pursue their careers. With no meeting place for young people who had moved there, they formed a Club on Dogpole where they could socialise and converse with their fellow countrymen in Welsh. The Society is still going strong today and now meets fortnightly from September to May at Bayston Hill Methodist Church. Meetings are held entirely in Welsh and consist of lectures, talks and musical evenings and visits from eminent Welsh people. ‘Learners’ are warmly welcomed. The Society also has close ties with other Welsh Societies such as Oswestry and Welshpool. The Society joins in on exchange visits. For more information, please use the contact details provided.
