Oxon is a Voluntary Controlled Church of England Primary School which has close links with Christ Church Shelton and Oxon, Bicton Heath. The school first opened in 1860 on a site next to the current parish church on the Welshpool Road. In 1959 the school began to move to this, its current site opening initially with two classrooms. The school has grown considerably over recent years and now has fourteen classes. School Building, As a Church of England Primary School, there is a clear commitment to promoting a strong Christian ethos within the school. The school has Voluntary Controlled status which means that admission to the school is not dependent on any Christian commitment. They are delighted that the school represents the wide range of different faiths and perspectives of our local community. All schools for primary children 5 – 11 years provide a broad and balanced range of lessons, in line with the Government’s requirements.
