AngelmanUK (formerly ASSERT) is a United Kingdom based support group, run by volunteers who have direct contact with people with Angelman Syndrome. Angelman Syndrome (AS) is a neurological disorder caused by irregularities in Chromosome 15, resulting in a rare genetic condition causing severe learning difficulties. Most children are diagnosed between the ages 3 to 7 when characteristic physical and behaviour features become evident. The group’s objectives include:providing an information pack for families of those newly diagnosed,offering advice and support to parents, carers and professionalsforging links with similar AS organisations overseas,holding regional meetings in different locations throughout the year,establishing a register of families to act as a support for families of those newly diagnosed,funding research into AS, andraising public awareness by means of articles for journals and magazines.For more information, please follow the link to visit their website.
