Empathy for special children is a user led registered charity, working across Shropshire to improve the lives and reduce the social isolation of those growing up with a Hidden Disability. The team of trained and dedicated staff run four core projects in three corners of the county. Empathy sessions run somewhere in Shropshire every week, of every year and no family member living with a hidden disability need ever feel alone again. There projects running from Craven Arms, Oswestry and Telford include a Fortnightly Family Friendship Groups, Out and About, Unleashed and Social Sibs. No child or young person needs a formal diagnosis of anything to attend Empathy and whilst they are most suited to those in mainstream or specialist ASD settings, anyone that feels their family may benefit from any session is welcome. New families will be welcomed and supported at any session by a member of the local management team; who are all parents of special children. Empathy for special children works across Shropshire and Telford, providing regular, supported social opportunities for those growing up with Autism Spectrum Conditions / Additional needs and their families. Their year-round programme of support provides not only opportunities for families to enjoy some fun, friendship and support together but also enables young people with difficulties and neurotypical sibs to spread their wings and find support with their own dedicated sessions.
