The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) is the professional association for members of the counselling professions in the UK. BACP works to promote the role, relevance and awareness of the counselling professions in improving psychological wellbeing and mental health. The Association promotes and develops safe, ethical and competent practice in counselling and psychotherapy. It aims to maintain and work towards raising the standards of counselling, training and practice and provide support for counsellors and psychotherapists. BACP’s Register is a public record of counselling professionals who meet or exceed their recommended minimum quality standards. These standards cover training, supervision, continuing professional development and a contractual commitment to BACP’s Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions. A list of counsellors in local areas is available on their website as well as training and career information.
